The Los Angeles Times mailing was unusual for two reasons when compared to previous communications from the Zodiac killer — 1) It received a non-San Francisco postmark (Pleasanton, Cal.) and 2) It was sent to a non-Bay Area newspaper

Contrary to popular misinformation, the Zodiac killer’s letter to the Los Angeles Times was not his only mailing in 1971 — it was followed-up on March 22nd with a card that was dropped off at the San Francisco Chronicle building.

There were no additional communications from the Zodiac killer until 1974, when he mailed four additional cards and letters.

(All of the communications referred to here were authenticated by police.)
