The Zodiac Killer Case May Yet Be Solved
The Zodiac Killer case has remained a subject of interest for more than 50 years for people all over the world. The Zodiac’s horrific crimes, his teasing letters, and his mysterious ciphers terrified the people of Northern California from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Although it has been decades since anyone has heard from the man who dubbed himself the Zodiac, many still hold onto the hope that someday we may answer the final questions of the Zodiac Killer Case.
What Do We Know About The Zodiac Killer?
Although the Zodiac Killer was never caught, we do know a few things about the Zodiac Killer. Previously, we discussed the fact that thanks to the accounts of at least one victim, some eyewitnesses, a couple of patrol officers, and some evidence left behind at crime scenes, we have a general idea of what the Zodiac looked like.
He is very likely a white male of about average height and a little over the average US male adult weight. He perhaps wore glasses and kept his hair in a short crew cut. He was of stocky build and his hair was likely brown or reddish brown. He was likely in his late-20s to mid-40s.
What else do we know, though?
Who Was The Zodiac Killer?
Although the Zodiac Killer was never identified, we do know some things about who he was – or, rather, the type of person he was. These aspects of his personality are revealed in the Zodiac’s letters and ciphers.
His letters reveal a strong disdain for the police and confidence in his own ability to outwit them. He also displays a certain level of glee both in regard to the crimes he commits and in revealing gruesome details and plans for future crimes.
The fact that he sent these letters and even at times demanded that his words be published in local newspapers reveals that he liked attention and that the attention of police officials was not enough. He needed attention from the public at large as well.
His letters also show he has a controlling streak. Not only did he demand his words be published – he also expressed an interest in making the public wear Zodiac Killer themed pins.
Finally, the letters reveal his motive for murder. He had a twisted belief that those he killed would be forced to serve him in the afterlife.
